Play Therapy Group
NEEDED! Children with mysterious and/or common personalities,
"ingrown" annoying habits, expressive crying styles and creative
temper tantrums!

All of the above are invited to join our Child Play Therapy Group!

Katia Chizhova, child, adolescent and adult psychotherapist, invites children to join her group specifically
designed to attend to child's various emotional and psychological needs. The group is designed for
children within the age range of 3-7 y.o. and is based on the fundamental concepts of child play therapy
as well as helpful techniques of art therapy.  Mrs. Chizhova also conducts sessions with parents to
inform them on the progress their child is making and provide any feedback needed for child's better
development and functioning.

Play therapy refers to a large number of treatment methods, all of which make use of one or more of
the natural benefits of play. Play is a child's natural medium of communication. It allows children a safe
psychological distance from their problems and helps them express their true thoughts, feelings and
behaviors in ways best suited to their developmental level.
Children engaged in play practice the roles
and behaviors they will be playing in their future life.

Play therapy allows trained play therapists to assess and understand children's play and to use it in
assisting the child in coping with difficult emotions and in finding solutions to their problems.

Main healing powers of
Play are self-expression and self-disclosure, which are facilitated during the
Play Therapy  to help a child identify his problems/conflicts, understand these conflicts, accept them
and cope with them.
Play Therapy can be used with clients of a wide age range: as early as 3-4 years
old with no limit of a maximum age where a play therapy can be applied. It DOES work with all the ages.

The
Child Play Therapy is conducted in a relaxed, playful yet structured environment where children
use various expressive tools (i.e. play-doh, drawing and coloring tools, puppets, toys, interactive books,
puzzles, etc) during their interaction with each other. Play Therapist leads children in the direction that
will better facilitate their expressive behavior and that will allow children express their feelings that
require special attention and therapeutic involvement. One of the benefits of conducting group play
therapy for kids is allowing them to interact with each other, learn how to be a team player, share and
consider each other's needs and actions. The child participating in a Group Play Therapy becomes more
interactive, social, considerate of others around him and learns to observe and compromise with others.
Some children may react better to group therapy as opposed to individual sessions with a therapist as
they feel more relaxed and familiar with a situation where they have kids of similar age who they can
better relate to (as opposed to playing with therapist one-on-one) thus lowering their defenses and
expressing themselves more openly.

Come and Play with Me once a week for 45 minutes. The process is fun, playful, interactive, creative,
facilitates growth and self-expression.
