Domestic Violence
Domestic Violence Survivor Support Group

Domestic Violence Survivor Support Group is a homogeneous support group that utilizes a cognitive
approach for women survivors of domestic violence.
This is a voluntary group with stable membership that provides a safe place for women to receive
support and advocacy. It is cohesive, and self –reflective. Group is an integral part of our developmental
experiences, from our early family unit, to the classroom; to the people we surround ourselves with at
work, at play, and at home. Many women survivors of domestic violence have experienced interpersonal
alienation, isolation anonymity, and social fragmentation. Women who are enrolled have similar and
stable levels of functioning.
The group is confidential and interactive. Members meet weekly in private practitioner’s office.

Goals

  • Symptom relief by enabling group members to participate collaboratively with others.
  • To obtain interpersonal satisfactions in the context of realistic, mutually gratifying relationships.
  • To lead a more abundant and rewarding life with others

Time Frame

Most members will experience maximum therapeutic benefit after one to three years. The life of the
group is indefinite and graduating members are replaced as they leave in order to keep the group size
approximately constant.
