Mariya Martynenko's Handcrafted Pottery and Jewelry Exhibit at the Nutley Free Public Library
Pottery and jewelry designed by Nutley resident Mariya Martynenko is on display at the Nutley Free Public Library throughout April. Ms. Martynenko is a Licensed Professional Counselor with a private practice in Livingston and in Hackensack Center of Revitalizing Psychiatry, as well as an aspiring textile artist. She considers handicrafts a perfect complement to her profession, her artistry allowing her to experiment and nurture her creative side and a counterpart to the methodology necessary in psychotherapy.
Ms. Martynenko’s creations include heather colored plates designed with a striking overlay of glass, pottery urns reminiscent of the classic style and bold necklaces embellished with creative accents. Ms. Martynenko has been creating pottery and jewelry for the past three years and has taken many private classes. She encourages people to pursue hobbies for their beneficial effects. “As a psychotherapist, I recommend hobbies as the best anti-depressant, anti-anxiety medication and psychotherapy,” Ms. Martynenko says. “There are no side effects, and you can choose your own dosage. Hobbies offer countless opportunities for self-discovery and development, and doing something new is a lot of fun, yielding surprising results and renovation.”
